Epic Score

Epic Score was put together with Daniel Gerwig, Steve McClean and Kevin Olmsted for the Sprint contest. However, it was rejected for the contest for unknonw reasons. It is possible they felt the music was not original or perhaps that it was a 300 parody. |

I was the second of 4 kids. My brother was only 1 year and 3 weeks older then me, so until he hit puberty a year before me, we pretty much grew up as twins. My father was in the military, so until I was 8 years old, we moved a lot, including a few years on Germany. We finally settled down in El Paso, Texas where I finished high school and continued on to the Univ. of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). Initially I started in Mechanical Engineering because that's what all my advisors told me to take when I told them I wanted to get into robotics. Well, turns out, mechanical engineering really just helps you build the arms and things of the robot. What I wanted was to control the robot, so switched to Computer Science. Somewhere in there I got married to my High School sweetheart, and because it seemed like a good idea at the time, I left school and went to Ohio with her and her family. This is where I wrote my first screenplay because I had so much time because I hadn't yet found a job. I spent a few good years there and then left my wife and headed to Los Angeles with the hopes of making it big in acting, which I did in high school. Well, I didn't make it to Los Angeles because I ran out of money, so I stopped half way back in El Paso and got a job or two. I ended up going back to school and met another girl that later became my wife. I just had a bit more to finish for my B.S. in Computer Science and then we were going to head out to Los Angeles, where I could make it big in acting....but she really loved her job and it seemed like a good idea at the time, so we bought a house. I finally got my degree and started working for a U.S. Army D.O.D. contractor. I was one of 8 employees, so it was a great opportunity to work on projects as a main contributor. I had a few good years there and then I left my wife. I still worked for the military contractor but started dabbling in film making. I made a film and entered it into Project Greenlight's Director's Contest. What do you know!? I got to the second round, one of the top 250 scenes. This sparked me to make more films and write more scripts, all the while getting my Master's Degree in Computer Science. A year and half working on my Thesis project my advisor invited one of the reviewing professors to hear my progress so far. After explaining the project the professor said, "That's not a valid thesis topic." Okay, that's all I needed to hear. I left. This time, I made it to Los Angeles. I was still working for the military contractor remotely but got to explore acting in the big city. Things were okay. I booked quite a few student jobs and even an infomercial that was going to air in Holland. My boss with my military company decided he wanted to expand into the entertainment industry, so we teamed up and started Moving Target Entertainment. We were going to work on our technical strengths and develop a casting web site. There were a couple of them out there but they were just starting. Well, I couldn't give it away. No actors wanted to join the site because no casting directors were posting projects. No casting directors wanted to post projects because there were not actors signed on. But turns out I created something without knowing it. In my office we built a small room to video tape actors to put on the site. Times were tough so I offered the space for anybody to use an an audition space, if they used the web site to promote the project. A few people took me up on it and then one guy said, "This is really great. You should charge for this." Well, I put a small ad on Craigslist.com and put a price tag on the space I was offering for free...and wouldn't you know it, people wanted to come use it. We started getting busy. We were actually making money renting out space. I got a few partners to share office space with me while I was working as a background actor to get my SAG card. Things were really growing. We ended up expanding to 3 studios, then another one on a different floor, then we outgrew that and added another office space on a different floor. We've been doing this for 5 years now, and it's still going strong. The contacts and friends I've made by seeing over 100 productions come through my office each month has really given me many opportunities. I now own a RED camera and have shot many things on it, including one feature. I know with my close partners and the friends I've made, I will continue to grow and have bigger opportunities in the entertainment industry.
